What does “MLS” mean? A basic education (plus Jennifer Aniston’s house)

Time for a little education. This phrase "MLS" gets thrown around a lot and I am here to explain it to everyone who isn't quite sure what it is and is afraid to ask.  MLS is an acronym that stands for "Multiple Listing Service" and is a fairly universal phrase throughout American real estate sales.  The broker of the company owns the listing.  Example: I am a the broker of my company and I own the listings my company has for sale. The agent you signed with doesn't own it, the broker owns it. And the broker pays a subscription fee to the local MLS provider to type in all the listing data that is going to show up as your house for sale.  This is where the experts are first separated...
